AlexFert cuts missed
handover items by 73%
at Egypt's largest fertilizer complex.

Alexandria Fertilizers Company operates one of the largest ammonia and urea production complexes in North Africa. With 24/7 rotating shifts across a multilingual workforce, shift handover accuracy is a core operational and safety priority. AlexFert selected Capped AI for its Arabic-first design and on-prem deployment model.

The challenge

AlexFert's operators work across Arabic and English, with shift supervisors responsible for briefing incoming teams on running alarms, open work permits, and equipment in non-standard states — all within a 30-minute handover window. Paper logs and verbal briefings left critical items uncaptured, and no structured audit trail existed for HSE review.

A deviation in the ammonia synthesis loop flagged during a night shift was not fully communicated to the day team, contributing to an unplanned shutdown and a lost production day. AlexFert needed a structured, auditable handover system that could run entirely on-prem — no cloud, no external data transfer — while supporting both Arabic and English input from the same interface.

The solution

Capped AI deployed an on-prem appliance alongside AlexFert's existing Yokogawa CENTUM VP historian, with a fully Arabic-first UI and bilingual handover reports. Operators enter shift notes in Arabic or English — the system accepts both in the same input. Capped AI generates a structured brief covering synthesis loop status, running alarms, open permits, and equipment deviations, with automatic translation so incoming supervisors always receive a consistent format.

The appliance runs on-site with no external data transfer, satisfying AlexFert's IT and HSE requirements from day one. Installation, integration, and operator training completed within the first three weeks of the pilot. All handover records are stored locally and are exportable for HSE audit in Arabic and English simultaneously.

“We needed a system that could handle Arabic input without making the operators switch languages mid-shift. Capped AI was the only solution that treated Arabic as a first-class requirement, not a localisation afterthought.”
