Valmore cuts shift briefing
time by 83% across
Rotterdam's port complex.

Valmore Plant Management operates and maintains process facilities on behalf of owners across the Rotterdam industrial port cluster — one of Europe's densest petrochemical corridors. Managing consistent, auditable shift handover across units running under different client HSE regimes is a core operational challenge. Valmore selected Capped AI to unify handover quality without imposing a one-size-fits-all procedure.

The challenge

Valmore's operators rotate across multiple client-owned units in the same shift window — each with its own DCS, alarm philosophy, and permit-to-work system. Incoming shift teams were spending the first 45–60 minutes of a 12-hour shift reconstructing plant state from a patchwork of paper logbooks, verbal briefings, and system printouts.

A missed isolation point on a heat exchanger during a handover — later traced to a verbal briefing gap — triggered a near-miss incident and a formal HSE investigation. Valmore needed a structured digital handover layer that could sit above multiple DCS vendors and surface only the items that mattered to the incoming operator, not a raw data dump.

The solution

Capped AI's on-prem appliance connected to Valmore's AVEVA System Platform historian in under two weeks, without changes to existing DCS configuration or historian schema. The AI generates a structured handover brief from operator voice input during the final 15 minutes of each shift — surfacing running alarms, open permits, and equipment deviations in priority order.

Supervisors review and digitally sign the brief before the outgoing team leaves. Incoming shift leads receive a consistent, searchable summary the moment they badge in — no re-briefing, no verbal reconstruction of plant state. Handover records are retained for 90 days and are available for HSE audit export on demand.

“The incoming supervisor used to spend the first hour on the phone chasing context. Now they walk in, read the brief, and they're in the room within ten minutes. That change alone is worth the whole programme.”
